Let’s rewind the clocks to a time not so long ago – on April 13th, 2015, this was the relegation zone of the Premier League:

Leicester City were at the bottom of the table and relegation was almost a sure thing. We all believed that the team didn’t had enough to make the final push to survive. Now let’s fastforward to this week, and where would we find Leicester?

That’s right. It’s like a Hollywood movie, not very believable and kind of magic. Leicester is now in the 1st place and has every chance to be the champion of the Premier League for the very first time. The other real contender is Tottenham but now it seems almost impossible that the title could slip away. We talked to a Leicester fan, Will Knight, and even the most pessimist fan of the club doesn’t think that something like that could ever happen.

“It is still difficult to believe it, and the pessimist in me has trouble saying the words ‘We will win the premier league’. Having said that, I can’t see us dropping enough points for them to catch up, so yes I think we will win the league.”

So, what changed from one season to another?!

“I think that the important thing is that not a lot has changed from the end of last season”, he adds. And the truth is that pretty much of the core of the team is still the same from last year. With one big exception: N’Golo Kanté. When Cambiasso left the club the fans started getting worried. And Kanté made everyone forget about him. He’s the commander of the midfield and has a lot of influence in the team success.

The other two major players that made all of this possible are Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. Now let’s have a closer look at Vardy. At the end of 2010, Vardy was playing at the lower leagues earning £30 a week. It doesn’t get much lower than that. Now, he’s the second goalscorer in Premier League and has already played (and scored!!!) for England’s national team. This is an underdog story within a underdog story. This is an Underdog Storinception!

Although these 3 men deserve a lot of credit for this Premier League run, there is still a man that deserves it just as much: Claudio Ranieri. Ranieri has been coaching for a while, and really good teams – Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus and Inter, just to name a few. And he never won a League. Not even once. And now he is on the verge of doing it with Leicester City!!! This man deserves a lot of credit. They really are a pleasant team to watch.

Everyone loves this story, even Iker Casillas

We don’t know what will happen to Leicester in the next seasons, they might struggle again. They might even get relegated. They might win a championship in the future. We still don’t know what will happen this season. But one thing is certain – every football fan around the world won’t miss a game until the end of the season.

“I can’t imagine us repeating this season – but I’ve got to be honest, if we win the league I couldn’t care less what happens next season. I think we’ll just be having a year-long party.”

Thanks to Will Knight for the time and amazing words.
