These are my all-time favorite games, some of them great, some of them absolutely transcendent.
10. Sonic the Hedgehog
Released before I was born, but played while I was growing up, this game was the first that made me stop just to part-ay to the soundtrack. And I have to say, I’m really glad I got a chance to play it. Probably the first game that made me say: football? nah. I’ma play Sonic (Which was a gigantic deal when I was a kid).
9. Tony Hawk Underground 2
And now for something completely different. A skating game? WHAAAA? Yes, The best TH game I’ve ever played (Skate is the second). Super fun and super ridiculous, and I absolutely love it. As with the other games in this list, I highly recommend you play it!
8. Fifa 07
The best Fifa in my opinion. Fun, somewhat arcade-y and completely broken in the manager mode (in one afternoon you can make all 14 seasons and win anything… yeah). And, 10 years later, I still play it once in a while, just for the manager mode. It’s fun seeing Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho in that time. With younger stars-to-be like Bale, who reaches 87 at his peak and Piqué, who reaches 88, eerily similar to real life (I will write something about this later).
7. Pokemon (any until Platinum, which was the last one I played)
The ultimate way to prove Darwin was right. The games that consumed hundreds of hours of my life, and hundreds more to come. I think everyone from my generation has played these games, even if for just a few minutes. It grabbed me and particularly two of my cousins, with one of them actually cheating in Pokemon Silver (6 level 100 Feraligatrs). Suffice it to say, I don’t need to say anything!
6. The Walking Dead (by TT Games)
A point-and-click adventure, QTE-filled rollercoaster of emotions. Play it for the story, if nothing else. It actually brought a tear to my eye. Who am I kidding? I cried like a little girl. But in a manly way.
The most fun you can have with an arcade-y racing game. I’ve played it for well over 5 years now, and I still find ways to make it dump me into a rage filled frenzy. Insanely fun. This classic is yet to be topped.
4. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
I was a Dragon Ball junkie as a kid. I woke up everyday at 6 a.m just so I wouldn’t miss the next episode, and I yelled at my mom for not waking me up when I overslept, yeah, I was that addicted to it. And when I got to play the first game in this series, I had to have it, and the sequels. I actually, really and literally, had to make a copy of the original, because my PS2 wasn’t in the best condition and I feared for the well-being of the CD. I was right. I killed the copy from overplaying it. Again, literally. The game still holds up, and it is a great game to destroy friendships and make you rage like they do in the series. Perfect fighting game in my opinion.
A small but delicious treat. A golden nugget among the best games ever. Arguably the BEST one ever (opinions differ). This is Portal – puzzles, a psychotic robot with the voice of an opera singer and lots and lots of fun (and some frustration). Just enjoy!
2. Borderlands 2
You know Diablo? You know… well, there really isn’t a shooter that can quite compare to Borderlands, at least that I’ve played. But, I assure you, if you like killing monsters and psychos, rejoice when you get that perfect weapon and build a character from a nobody to a legendary (insert on of the six classes here) this game is for you. I think I have sunk upwards of a thousand hours into this game. And I loved every second of it.
1. The Witcher 3
This is, without a doubt, the game that has made me look at games in a completely different way. It doesn´t reinvent the wheel, but polishes it in a way that could make it withstand a Bugatty Veyron at top speed forever. If you like RPGs, a gigantic world and story that rivals Game of Thrones, this game is for you. An absolute 10/10.
Well, these are my favorite games, what are yours? Leave them in the comments below!
